얼마나 사랑했는가?
How Much Did I Love?
알베르 카뮈는 말했다.
'우리들 생애의 저녁에 이르면,
우리는 얼마나 타인을 사랑했는가를 놓고
심판을 받을 것이다.'
Albert Camus said,
"When we reach life's twilight,
we will receive a judgment based upon
a measurement of how much we have loved others."
 
타인을 기쁘게 해줄 때
내 자신이 기쁘고,
타인을 괴롭게 하면
내 자신도 괴롭다.
When I make others happy,
my own self is happy.
When I cause others pain,
my own self is also pained.
 
타인에 대해 따뜻한 마음을 가지고 있으면
그 타인을 행복하게 할 뿐 아니라
내 자신의 내적인 평화도 함께 따라온다.
When I possess a mind that is affectionate towards others,
I do not simply cause others to be happy,
my own internal peace follows right along.
 
감정은 소유되지만 사랑은 우러난다.
감정은 인간 안에 깃들지만
인간은 사랑 안에서 자란다.
Passion becomes a possession, but love effuses.
It is within humans emotion may dwell,
but it is within love that humans are nurtured.
